CATL's Lab Becomes World's First to be Authorized by UL Solutions' UL9540A WTDP

Recently, the launch ceremony for CATL's R&D and Verification Center for Energy Storage Technology and the UL9540A Laboratory was held in Ningde. It is the world's first laboratory authorized by UL Solutions as UL9540A Witness Test Data Program (WTDP) for Modules and Units.

The authorization represents UL Solutions' recognition of CATL's rigorous efforts to ensure safety and quality in accordance with international standards. The safety laboratory of CATL's R&D and Verification Center for Energy Storage Technology is fully equipped for the evaluation and verification of thermal runaway propagation of large-sized energy storage products. It is a supplement to thermal runaway tests and various abuse tests for containers or smaller units in accordance with UL9450A and GB/T36276. This further improves CATL's testing and verification system, thus tremendously streamlining the UL9540A accreditation cycle for energy storage products exported to key regions such as Europe and the United States. 


Furthermore, the performance laboratory of CATL's R&D and Verification Center for Energy Storage Technology has been equipped with seven advanced test channels for energy storage systems (AC and DC), including an ultra-large test system for energy storage containers at 35KV AC and 2.5KV DC, a 330m³ 70t container test system for cold or hot environments, and China's first 6MW ultra-large divisible charge/discharge test system for energy storage. It has built China's largest cluster of energy storage product test systems for battery materials, packs, racks, containers, and systems.


Establishing a world-leading R&D and testing center for energy storage systems is a fundamental requirement for the high-quality development of the energy storage industry. As one of the organizations involved in preparing testing standards of the energy storage industry, CATL has participated in the formulation and revision of an array of Chinese and international foundational energy storage standards, including GB/T 36276, GB44240, and IEC63056. It is committed to providing customers with secure, reliable, and efficient energy storage solutions, and developing energy storage products in accordance with high standards to usher in a new stage of high-quality development in the energy storage industry.
