On November 25th, the signing ceremony of the strategic cooperation agreement between CATL and Nanjing Steel Group Co., Ltd. ("Nanjing Steel Group") was held in Ningde, Fujian.
The steel industry is a major contributor to the development of infrastructure, automobile manufacturing, equipment manufacturing, and building industries. However, the industry is also energy-intensive, with carbon emissions accounting for about 15% of China's total carbon emissions, which will be officially included in the national carbon emissions trading market by the end of this year. Therefore, accelerating the decarbonization and green transition of the steel industry is of great significance in reducing carbon emission and achieving carbon neutrality goals.
This is CATL's first attempt to engage in a collaborative effort with a large steel maker, opening up a new model and a new approach for in-depth cooperation between the new energy industry and traditional carbon-intensive enterprises. According to the agreement, on the basis of CATL's zero-carbon technology, the two parties will leverage their respective advantages and potential resources to build a number of innovative "zero-carbon+" applications, starting from "zero-carbon energy" and "zero-carbon transportation" to the development of a "zero-carbon industrial park" and a "zero-carbon land-and-sea coordinated transport hub". The goal is to deliver a highly competitive and comprehensive zero-carbon solution, ultimately promoting its adoption nationwide.
In addition, the two parties will make a joint effort in the fields of intelligent industrial products, electrification of construction machinery and equipment, application of lightweight hybrid materials, green transportation of electric heavy trucks, and photovoltaics, in order to further advance energy saving and carbon reductions, improve energy efficiency of production processes, and accelerate reduction in carbon emissions before realizing full-chain carbon asset management.
As the cradle of Jiangsu's iron and steel industry, Nanjing Steel Group has now become a national high-tech enterprise with operations spreading across mining and mineral processing, steel smelting, steel rolling, deep processing, and new industries. Over the past 60 years, it has established a leading position in Jiangsu's special steel and new materials industry. In the future, CATL will work together with Nanjing Steel Group to seek new paths to promote energy saving and carbon reductions, help the industry develop through sci-tech innovation and green technology, and accelerate the arrival of a zero-carbon era with green steel.
