According to the recent announcement, MR. EKACHAI YIMSAKUL, Managing Director of Arun Plus Company Limited (ARUN PLUS), and (CATL) have signed a strategic MOU to explore potential cooperation and development opportunities in battery-related business in ASEAN, to increase the competitive-edge of both parties in battery business, as well as to secure a long-term energy storage system technology in Thailand and in global markets.
This collaboration is between CATL, a global leader of new energy innovative technologies, and ARUN PLUS, a wholly owned subsidiary of PTT Public Company Limited (PTT,) with the aim to focus on the EV value chain business. According to the MOU, CATL will authorize its Cell-to-Pack (CTP) technology to Arun Plus and both parties will explore the opportunity both in Thailand and other countries around the world.
As battery is one of the most important components for electric vehicle, this partnership will be the starting point for building a complete EV Value Chain using state-of-the-art technology which supports a wide range of applications. Both Arun Plus and CATL aim to supply the battery to Horizon Plus, a JV of Arun Plus and Foxconn focusing to manufacture electric vehicles (EVs) in Thailand in 2024, and other EV brands.
Featuring highly efficient integration, CTP is a technology that directly integrates cells into packs without modules. By leveraging CATL's CTP technology, the battery pack's design improves system energy density, simplifies manufacturing and results in cost savings.
Hoping to provide support for Thailand’ EV Ecosystem along with 30/30 Thailand's EV vision, this collaboration will also drive the emerging EV ecosystem, and thus contribute to transitioning Thailand to a low carbon economy and a regional EV hub in the future.
CATL is a global leader in new energy technology innovation, committed to providing premier solutions and services for new energy applications worldwide. In 2021, CATL ranks No. 1 in terms of EV battery consumption volume with a global market share of 32.6%, according to SNE research, and its market share stands at around 50% in China. In September 2021, CATL’s Ningde facility was recognized by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as a global Lighthouse factory, the first battery plant joining WEF's Global Lighthouse Network (GLN).
